Quartet in Residence
Applications for the 2018 Quartet in Residence are now being considered
Calling all young quartets to apply for the opportunity to take part in the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival in January 2018.
We are looking for our resident string quartet – an ensemble who would like the opportunity to join a group of inspiring artists, perform alongside them, receive coaching, and experience one of the UK’s leading chamber events. All accommodation, board and tuition fees are covered.
The festival welcomes 25 artists of international standing. In 2018 this will include festival directors Daniel Tong and Simon Crawford-Phillips, Malin Broman, Matthew Truscott, Guy Johnston, Marie Bitlloch and Tom Dunn. The focus of the 2018 festival will be Mendelssohn and his inspirations.
Festival dates: Sunday 14th – 21st January 2018
Closing date for applications: September 30th 2017.
The successful quartet will:
Perform a work from their repertoire at the January 2018 festival. This will be at the quartet’s discretion unless the work is already programmed.
Perform a work with one or more festival artists, rehearsed at the festival.
Receive daily coaching from a range of festival artists.
Be in residence at Treowen Manor, Monmouthshire. Rehearse, dine and socialise with all the festival artists.
Attend all festival concerts.
Be given free accommodation and meals for the duration of the festival.
You will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements to Treowen Manor and all travel costs. There are no fees for performances for any of the artists at the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival.
In order to be eligible, two or more members of the quartet should be in full time education or have recently graduated (Summer 2016 or 2017).
Please send an application by email to email@example.com which should include:
1. A contact address, phone number and email for your quartet.
2. Details of each member’s musical education.
3. A biography for your quartet with details of performances and prizes as applicable.
4. Two references from musicians of standing who have heard your quartet in performance.
5. A covering letter, telling us why you’d like the opportunity to come to the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival.
The closing date for application is September 30th 2017. Quartets will be notified within two weeks of the closing date by email to let them know whether they will be asked for audition.
Auditions will be organised as necessary.
